Welcome & addresses from Maria Leusa Kaba Munduruku and Ana Laide Barbosa; communities struggling for land sovereignty in Brazil's Amazon*, and guests followed by feasting, bronze casting and Beltane traditions.
We're getting ready to welcome folks to our Beltane Gathering tomorrow!
We’ll begin with a short introduction from Brian Garvey, University of Strathclyde in Scotland who has pulled together the knowledge exchange; (Un)earthing new pathways for a justice transition: cultivating hope and food on contested terrains.
We'll hear from Maria Leusa Kaba Munduruku - leader of the Munduruku women and President of the Association of Wakoborun Women in the Tapajos River, in the Amazon of Pará State and Ana Laide Soares Barbosa an ancestor of fishing people and enslaved of the Amazon and educator with Xingu Vivo Para Sempre Movement who will share their struggles and work with us.
We'll then open the floor to bring in perspectives from Community Land Scotland, communities from Skye experiencing their own land struggles and others near and far.
To round up the first part of the day - we’ll reconstitute the Free State with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, Interdependence and Radical Dependence.
Second half
Folks present will then invited to participate in a fire ceremony (Beltane is traditionally a fire festival) which will involve a tool dedication. You're invited to bring something that represents your work, if you want to dedicate this to some larger purpose, struggle or simply to your family or community.
The afternoon will saunter into the evening with a procession round to our new garden space before we return for more mingling at the Free State - with more passport printing etc, sharing food, bronze casting and live music. You're also welcome to bring an instrument, or a song.
Love and solidarity
